12 July 2022: The James Webb Space Telescope's first images are revealed

On 12 July 2022, NASA released the first full-colour images from the James Webb Space Telescope, including the deepest, sharpest infrared view of the distant universe yet. Thousands of galaxies, some of whose light set out more than 13 billion years ago, filled a patch of sky the size of a grain of sand held at arm's length.
